From SME Clusters To Global Export – Solo’s Furniture Go International

Solo’s furniture uniqueness is also seen in its export orientation.

Several established manufacturers of wooden, rattan, and natural-fiber furniture place their head office in Surakarta (Solo) while operating showrooms and factories across Java, serving retail, wholesale, and project buyers worldwide.

At the same time, the city government positions furniture and wood craft as a key part of Solo’s creative economy. Sentra IKM Sri Kayu in Gilingan is being developed as a strategic hub to strengthen the role of mebel SMEs and cement Solo’s position on the national furniture map.

To connect SMEs, designers, and buyers, Solo hosts Solo Furnicraft Expo and Sri Kayu Furni Fest, annual exhibitions that showcase the latest wood-craft and furniture products and explicitly aim to help local players expand into export markets.

This ecosystem means Solo stands out for:

  • a dense base of creative SMEs,

  • anchor exporters with global experience, and

  • regular trade shows that promote “Lokal Berdaya, Global Berkarya” furniture from Solo.

Together, they give Solo a clear identity: a culturally rich city where traditional craft, modern interiors, and export-ready manufacturing meet in one furniture hub.
